I recently bought a website, domain, and the rights to a book. The website is MakingMoneyIdeas dot Org and the Book is on Amazon, It called something like '23 Ideas to make money from home starting today...'
I've always been against buying anything information or even domains except ones I registered myself, but I make an exception. I paid under a couple hundred dollars and wanted to know if people here in the community had stories of buying websites, domains, or other assets online that really paid off.
The book isn't real elaborate, but I made a contact with someone who knows the process and I actually have a couple helpful book ideas written.
It seems you never know where you will end up and I guess I'm happy with the purchase. I know how to make money with my purchase, I've been doing well with a business model that work and this purchase fits well with what I'm doing.
I'm interested in hearing successful stories that stemmed from doing something outside your comforts zone, like buying a business, a website, or what ever.

I think that's definitely a good purchase. It has a solid domain with the keywords in it. Now, you need to get some traffic and hopefully get some sales. To get traffic you need backlinks, preferably from niche-related, high PR websites. You may start out by doing some article marketing as well. Write some articles about making money online (very basic 250-300words) and submit it to Ezinearticles with your link in the signature. YahooAnswers is another way to get some traffic and sales. And of course, social networks...mainly twitter, facebook, myspace.
I too bought a website last year without knowing anything about it. I kept posting content and try to get some backlinks and now it makes $10.00+ / day. This with no work anymore...so it's an awesome cash flow to have.
Anyways, I think you made a good investment and I wish you luck to maximize the profits.

First off, congrats for your purchase. I have visited the site and considering the amount you have paid for it, I must admit that I would have probably done the same thing. Did the Thesis theme come with it too? Curious if you found this website on Flippa :)
Anyway, the website looks interesting and you might want to move up a notch and put in some new and fresh content. I am more into buying a domain name and creating websites from scratch but I did purchase an established website once and I found that putting in fresh content, working a little on SEO and marketing the brand, has paid off. You can use the site for example to 'build' a list and maybe offer the book for your subscribers. You can then upsell a new book of your creation and work on it from there. Trial and error, and good luck!
A lot of people have made money from these kinds of ventures. The most important thing is to have a plan and follow it diligently. A lot of people think that it is easy and buy a domain and then expect the traffic to flow and bring riches. Getting eyes on your domain (and converting them to buyers, of course) takes lots of time and effort.

Selling ebooks is probably the single best way to create a passive income. My advice - don't just stick to Amazon. You can make a lot more selling the book as an ebook directly from your website. Learn how to generate targeted search engine traffic and you've basically got a license to print money. The only problem is that you're in a very, very, very competitive niche, so to generate any kind of significant search engine traffic will take a lot of work and buying PPC ads will be a nightmare.
this is a legitimate way to earn an income... but it can be a hard road to travel.
You need to check out some other forums like the Warriors Forum (google it) and start learning how to drive traffic to the site. Set up a FB page and fan page for your book. You can also sell the book through Amazon for the kindle relatively easily - look for DTP.amazon.com.
It's a lot more complicated than setting up a website and watching the money roll in.
Personally, I've done it, and now i'm focusing on Personal Franchising. I still set up a webpage, still try to get traffic to it, but for slightly different results. I'm not selling a product as much as helping others start their own business.
Finally - when you can, you may want to consider using something like Clickbank to allow affiliate to sell your book. You pay them 70% of your profit, but you'll make THOUSANDS of sales more.
