Moving From GA to SC, Want to Start Business in NC

Hello

I've never owned my own business.  I have a liscence (valid but not yet used) in GA that is reciprocal to NC, and not to SC.  I'm planning to move to an area on the border of SC and NC, thus living in SC.  Although I have this mailing address of SC, I will be doing the work for buildings and businesses in the state of NC.  I will not be using a physical address in NC for a brick and mortar business base.  Can I apply for my business with NC and the IRS with my SC address, and skip messing with SC liscencing and permits?

Have you considered renting a post office box in NC and using that as your business address? You might take a look at the registration, licenses, and permits section of this web site to learn about the requirements in NC and SC. When you say you have a license, are you referring to a business license or to your name and entity registration? If you mean the entity and name registration, it would be fairly easy to register your business in SC. Another consideration is taxes. You may be required to pay state taxes in both NC and SC. Since you are planning to move to an area on the border, have you considered living in NC instead of SC? That could simplify things.
