My Logo

I am starting my own photograhy business. When I edit the photos and post
them on the Internet (such as Facebook) I always put my logo on the photos so
others can't steal them. But when I put the photos on a disc to give to the
customer, should I leave the logo on there, leave it and just make it
smaller, or not have it on there at all? I put all the photos on a disc so
the customer can make the copies of thier own. But I don't want to run into
the problem of them uploading the photos onto the internet with out giving me
any credit. As of right now Facebook and word of mouth are my only ways of
advertisement. So I still want to protect my work and get my photos out there
for others to see.

can still either retain or not your logo in your photo as they can remove it
on their own.

duly signed copy stating the terms and conditions and not using or uploading
your photographs without permission. Adding your logo as a watermark is an
intelligent step.

over your photos. This is very common for photographers and does not take
anything away from the quality of the photo itself. In addition, whenever you
post you could use a low pixel quality version so if someone rips it off they
can't do much with it by way of commercialization. The watermark is a good
way to go..

provides better protection than merely having your logo on the picture
itself.

understand this point.
You can also look into watermarking your photos.

You should definitely include a written copyright like mentioned by
BizResearcher. You should also include terms & conditions in which you would
provide guidelines as to where & how your photos could or could not be used.
This provides more protection than having your logo on the picture itself.
However, that said, if what you're goal is to advertise your services I would
suggest including your website or facebook page instead of your logo that way
they know where to find you. Just make sure you do it in a tasteful way.

release so they can make copies of the photos. If you leave your logo on the
photo, they won't be able to obtain a clean copy.
In your copyright release you should include wording that indicates that the
photos cannot be shared on the Internet, reprinted for any reason other than
personal use, or used commercially without giving you credit. Have the client
sign the copyright release, then make a copy of it for your files. When you
present the disc, you may want to point out the section of the release
containing the restrictions.
If you are in the habit of mailing the discs, then email the release first
and tell the client that when you receive a signed copy back you will mail
the disc. Many people are unaware of the rights of professional
photographers, so pointing them out will both educate and protect.
