If grants were that available and easy, every person in this country would be in business for themselves. Starting a business takes risk - it is these risks that can bring big rewards. Every business onwer in the world has faced the same risks you are facing right now. But, instead of worring about failing, they put that energy into ensuring they would succeed. Maybe you can start smaller (out of your house) so that you can keep costs down while you build your business. Than, when you establish yourself, you can expand.

You are wise not to purchase information. Many companies that sell grant information are scams. Generally, there are no grants available to for-profit businesses unless they have created a new product or technology that is in the national interest. Rather, as you discovered, loans are available. If your store will be located in an area of high unemployment and you will be creating jobs, you might be eligible for a low-interest loan. Check with a bank that specializes in SBA loans. They should also have information on other loan programs as well.
