I would have to agree that it is not a scam.  However, living in Utah (where many MLM's originate) it seems as though there is an abundance of companies that constantly shift their payment structure to lessen their payout rate.  Additionally, I think it is important to understand growth and product development.  Some organizations simply do not focus on new products.  Instead, they believe that having one product that doesn't evolve will be suffice.  Almost all of the successful MLM's seem to have a large development staff, such as Mary Kay, Avon, but Xango seems to have lost its popularity- they only focused on one juice.

As requested, this opinion is that MLM, Multilevel marketing, which can be described as Pryamiding, is not likely per se a true scam in the worst types of cases, and can be very legitimate in some cases.  One of the main factors which will dictate how legitimate it is on a case by case basis, is whether the people or group are providing, or selling, a real product or service along with it, and do  they spend a good portion of time selling, proposing, and actually making significant sales?  Some organizations profess to sell a product or service, when in fact, those products and / or services, upon closer inspection are mostly a prop to garner legitimacy.    There is nothing more one can say other than it has to be assessed in each case.  Without getting into names, there are decades long cosmetics and home cleaning product companies which do really sell their products, though a very sizable portion of the goal seems to be getting  more and more recruits underneath oneself.   An associate recently approached this writer seeking participation into a commercial real estate funding group.     There were two significant aspects to it which prevented agreeing to participate.   One was that a sizable annual fee would be required to participate in the private funding group.   In short, sending customers to someone  and also having to pay them to do so.     There may be organizations with very developed legitimate programs for which this can still make sense, though it is certainly not common.  Another aspect was that a very high percentage of the time and effort was spent on trying to bring in new recruits versus processing or selling the actual  "product" or "service".    The point of the organization was supposed to be commerical financing, yet most of the time was spent bringing in new recruits.     Some long standing types of organizations, such as insurance agencies and agents may in part use the principle behind this philosophy and there is nothing wrong with it.   If an insurance agent gathers years of experience, has a portfolio of clients, knows the business, then trains new agents who are glad for the opportunity & the main agent gets a cut of their new policies written, there is nothing wrong with that.   The agent's providing their years of knowledge to the new recruits is their investment for which they are repaid possibly by a cut of the new agents.  This subject is somewhat subjective, however, any given MLM organization may or may not be "legitimate" as understood to mean by most people as they exist for the primary purpose to sell a product or service, or both.   As stated, it depends on the circumstances.   

Every industry has scams.  The industry of network marketing certainly has its share of trivial products that are driven by hype and fancy packaging, products of dubious value, etc.  On the other hand, there are many excellent products and services in this channel.  Furthermore, it offers a significant income opportunity to average individuals without the million dollar idea, who would like to enter the world of business.  The best companies train their associates in proper professional communication and provide an excellent support network that allows the associate to grow into the necessary skill set at their own pace.  I am a health care professional who became interested in this field about five years ago and have enjoyed quite reasonable success.  It takes consistent and sincere efforts, yet can be rewarding in various ways.  One gains a community of like-minded people, learns diverse leadership and communicaiton skill and enjoys a no-ceiling financial opportunity.  An excellent resource is Robert Kiyosaki's book Business of the 21St. Century.

not it's not a scam. scam means if you steal people's money. Networking marketing is just like multi level marketing. So, in my optionan it's not scam at all.

In this business model, individual associates or distributors act like the franchise to the parent company or network marketing business company and they are paid with the compensation according to the number of products sold with their efforts or with their own organization. Scam, Not entirely. Althought I'm sure they exist
