Greetings Malabi,   I've been doing research on the NEMT business, and like many other business ventures its not easy at all. This business requires a lot of time, commitment,compassion & empathy,professionalism,and organization. Its not as hard as you think. I also live in GA and there are guidlines that one needs to adhere to in order to begin the process and get all that is needed to run the NEMT business successfully.   I will share some  info with you:   It is a competitive market, and can be very lucrative seeing that your company puts the time and energy needed to be successful. It can get extremely busy and one needs to make sure they can handle the work load in a TIMELY matter. Time is of essence in this business.   You can get private accounts with nursing homes, hospitals,workers comp. etc. But the most consistent income will come from a medicaid broker (middle man). Medicaid no longer provides individual NEMT owners with contracts due to fraud from providers. Therefore, they use a company which you would of to get a contract from in order to get the medicaid business.   You can start of small and do not have to start off with a fleet of vans.   Hope this was helpful. Hi rhondasteph, In Georgia, local governments issue permits for non-emergency medical transportation services. The permit you need will likely be the same one issued to other transportation services, such as limos and taxis. For example, in the city of Savannah, you would apply for a Motor Coach Permit with the city Dept of Revenue. Permit issuing agencies vary from city to city. Where is your business located? The Georgia Public Service Commission has this 'What I Need To Do ..?' page that will help you determine your operator licensing requirements. You should also check out The Georgia Dept of Revenue page on Registration of Commercial Vehicles which provides registering your vehicles. Rhonda, One of the cost factors that you should consider is commercial auto insurance. Transporting people as a business is risky to insure. If you transport 4 people from a ADHC to a destination and the driver of the van is at fault in the accident, there will be 4 individual law suits. This is why this type coverage may be expensive or cost prohibitive for a start up business. The cost to insure a van can possibly be between $3,000 - $4,000 annually.
