Large corporations have been finding unique and effective ways on how they can communicate to their target market. But with these two aspects comes also the consideration for the budget that will be alotted. And one branch of advertising that really suits this is utilizing social networking web sites.
Facebook ang twitter is on of the biggest business promoter nowadays, but it doesn't guarantee that you will be havign the same outcome with the others who are using this the media as thier business promoter, Thier are a lot of social media outthier that might help you even if, it is not famouse like facebook and twitter.
I will have to take another approach on this. If you know where to look, advertising can be quite cheap. It just takes a while to find when / where / which site. For instance, let's say you're selling widgets in Seattle.
Google 'Widget Companies in Seattle.' There should be many websites that pop-up with dedicated lists of widget companies in the Washington city. Seemingly, people set up these sites for somewhat of a hobby hoping somebody like you will get to them. Approach those websites and offer $25 for advertising for the year. Since no other widget dealer is thinking to do this, they will probably agree. You now have an advantage via ranking in Google.
It is very hard to monitize social media. As a matter of fact, Facebook and it's friends are having trouble. Try to avoid spending money and having the learning curve take your focus out of your main business.
Advertising costs quite a lot of cash.
And if you are new in business there is no way for you to pour tones of cash into advertisement.
To be honest a lot of people spend so much on advertising that the net profit becomes -ve.
So be smart and try to create a community.
Social Networks helps in that way.
Try to grow your customer base.

Social media helps to a certain extent but it depends on the kind of business you are in. My experience has been that most of these twitter/facebook users are tech savvy or young crowd and their interest differes from the rest of the buyers. I have spent many hours norouring my Twitter profile but yet to see concrete benefits. Facebook to me is my personal networking site and haven't explored it from business standpoint. Before you spend money or time into these media, run an experiment and find out if it works.
I have found it to be much more affordable to compete with the larger companies when it comes to online marketing. Traditional advertising (TV & Print) are still too expensive for small businesses.

I prefer to do linkWheel from different. it new technique to improve the ranking and very effective to get higher page rank from google.
