I'm trying to find some some information on how to acquire venture capital to start a small family business. I'm trying to start a small production facility in NJ to fabricate, market and sell (obviously) an aparatus I designed for the sports medicine industry. I'm a chiropractic student (in my last year) with a background in metal working and machining.
This product will be on the global market. If anyone could point me in the right direction or at least steer me away from the wrong direction I would greatly appreciate any info you may have.
Unless your business is high tech with huge market potential you probably will not find venture capital. You could get out in your local area and search out investors. Find and attend local networking events and talk to everyone. If the people you talk to don't invest - they may know who will.
Welcome to the forum; I would first start at the SBA.gov website and see if you qualify for any of the services they provide there in terms of guarenteed loans. Second, you'll need to start looking for investors who are interested or at least looking to invest in your type of company. I would start reviewing investment forums, investment blogs and what not to get an idea of what an investor looks for in a proposal for capital. LendingClub.com is a decent place to start looking for a loan; it's social lending so multiple lenders\investors can contribute to your inital capital needs.
