Contact your state's Secretary of State's office - they will tell you. You
can also ask your county's clerks office - both will be able to tell you
their specifics.
Usually you need a license when starting a business. If you are not from
USA/Canada check out your local laws.
Further, I'd say to you instead of buying business; develop/build your own in
which you are expert and can do easily.
Last but not the least, you must be equipped with all necessary ingredients
that boost your business leads. i.e. nicely design eCommerce that matches
your customer needs & expectation, website marketing and good customer
relation.
We believe every business has potential to get treasure from internet.
Beginning an internet company is much the same as starting any company. You
should go to your regional city area and find out what the specifications are
to form a company in your area. Also ask what is required at the state and
government level. In most areas you must sign-up a business name. If you will
function as a Organization or a Restricted Responsibility Company other
signing up specifications are required. Also, if you function from your home
you should consult about the regional zoning regulations. All these actions
are required for any company.

Are you thinking of a business license (which you obtain from your city or
county) or are you thinking of the need to register the business with your
state agency that registers business entities? If you plan to keep the
current name of the business, you will need to contact your state or county
agency that registers entity types and file a notification of change of
ownership. Then, if your city or county requires a business license, you will
need to apply for one with your name and your address.
