Hi. I currently own my own home and office cleaning business. I want to supplement this by starting a cookie business out of my home. I want to sell them on-line. I am having the hardest time finding out what I need to do to get going i.e. licensing, board of health etc. Can anyone help me? TIA!!
Check with your local health department for information. In most states, you cannot make food for sale in a home kitchen. Rather, you must bake in a licensed commercial kitchen and you won't be able to make your home kitchen into a commercial one. They must be in separate areas. The commercial kitchen must contain special sinks, refrigerators, shelving and more.
To pursue your idea, you might rent space in an existing commercial kitchen. Many senior citizens centers and churches have one, as well as restaurants that serve only breakfast and lunch.
You might also check to see if your state has a specialty foods association. If they do, you will be able to obtain a great deal of valuable assistance.
