Agree with cutcompcost - visit the IRS's website - they make a point about not having too many tax ids as well as when you should and when you shouldn't. The IRS's site offers a lot of information for businesses. If you are operating all of them - including the restaurant - as the same business or under - it should not matter. The IRS and your state just want their share of your income - they don't care if it comes from many tax ids or one - as long as they get their share. Plus, trying to manage all of them will be a bit tough. I say (not an expert) pick one - create a holding company - then put all the others under it with the same id. Contact your state's Secretary of States office - they can provide your state's requirements - they should also have an TAB office for your liquor lic. questions.

lexmarja, You weren't specific about which part of the state you're interested in building in, but for your liquor license questions, I would suggest that you start with PA's Liquor Control Board: http://www.lcb.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/pennsylvania_liquo... Then I would consult with your local municipality concerning any potential building and/or zoning issues. It sounds as if it's an ongoing business so you may be 'grandfathered in' but nothing beats hearing that from your attorney. Finally, get a hold of an account that you trust and consult with them about the tax questions. Usually if the entire business is being operated under one entity, one tax number is fine; but again...nothing beats hearing that from an experienced professional (The right ones on your side, are worth their weight in gold). You may also want to check with your state department of alcoholic beverages to find out if you can operate three bars under one liquor license or whether you need three licenses. The laws vary by state.

Pennsylvania is not my favorite state when it comes to alcohol laws, shipping there is nearly impossible. Is it state owned liquor stores? Before opening the bar I'd contact a few beer and liquor distributors and see the types of prices you'd be charged for alcohol and make sure the business can be profitable. If you contact your local beer/wine store they should be able to tell you who they use as a distributor, if you can't find the info online. I would definitely advise to start the permit process, immediately as no ABC is ever in any sort of a hurry.

Though I am not an expert in this sector, still I believe that if a person runs different business under the same roof and under the same business entity, you would not have to apply for a seperate tax id. I think you need only one business license. As far as liquor license, you'd need to ask a local expert but I would think that if there are 3 or however many bars under one roof and they are all accesible without having to exit the building, then I would think you would need just one license.

I'm not an expert on bars or Pennsylvania but here's my take.  Many businesses are run from multiple locations under the same tax id.  The only time you need a separate tax id is when you are using another business entity.  The location of the bars on 3 different levels doesn't seem like it would matter.  I believe as long as all of the business operations are laid out in the corporate docs then it won't matter how many different types of operations are run under it.  Just think about all of the major corporations out there that do many different things.
