If you are looking to start a Sole Proprietorship, you do not need to register a business, as you may engage in a business activity without a formal organization.. You may simply go to the nearest county or town office and file a name certificate with the office of the county/town clerk. If you want to conduct business under an assumed name (commonly referred to as a DBA: Doing Business As), then an assumed name or DBA certificate should be filed with the office of the clerk in the town or county where a business premise is maintained in accordance with Section 36.10 of the Texas Business & Commerce Code.
Keep in mind, though, that you will have to file a name cert. in each county/town you are doing business in. The filing fee is very affordable.
Best of luck with your business plans.
