I have had many people ask me if there is a requirement for a wedding photographer to get a business license when traveling out of there home state in order to shoot a wedding? Also what all would be required? I definetely think letting your liability insurance provider know would be a good idea in case your coverage would need to be adjusted. Thanks
I think there is a license need for photography, a business license or a personal one. It is better for you also because you can act legit if someone steels your photos and upload them on a website. Ofcourse a wedding event is not the case...
If you do only an occasional wedding in another state, but your business is based where you live, you need to comply only with the laws where your business is permanently located. I live less than an hour from a neighboring state. We occasionally do business there, but all billing comes from the office where the business is located.
I have not had to inform my insurance agent when I accept work across state lines. However, if you drive to the photo shoots and spend much time on the road, you may want to be certain you have adequate automobile insurance.
