I am in Tennessee and want to start an online business. I have been reading books and postings online but can't seem to find the answers to these questions. I am ready to get started but don't want to make any mistakes in licensing, etc.
If I am going to go the sole proprietor route what licenses do I need to get? I know I need to get a Federal Tax ID#. I'm just not sure on the state and local basis. I have plans for two different online stores targeting two totally separate industries. Should I do a 'DBA' so that the company name would be the same on both?
