Hello, I am in need of a bit of direction here. As the new sales and marketing director for a small business, I am not familiar with SBA practices, as my background is with Large Corps. My question is this:
I have found a very nice fit for some proposed contract work to be done with FEMA. This work Scope is ideal for our services. However, can you please tell me of any hurdles, or tasks to a foreign owned company bidding on federal work?
Our situation is this: We are a US registered small business, registered with the CCR, Incorporated in the U.S. (Delaware) Headquartered in the U.S. and pay American taxes. However, our owners are Scottish, working in the states under business visas, green cards, et;
Can you please offer direction or advice as to if this poses a problem, or if we require any special interests in order to qualify for gov/fed contracts?
It probably depends on the actual contract. Since the owners are legal residents or on a work visa and the business is incorporated here, I don't think the foreign business problem comes into play. What may be an issue is whether or not the contract requires the owners to be US citizens.

So long as they have the appropriate visas, and are based in the United States, I don't see why they can't do the federal work.

Yup -- As long as all the paperwork checks out, there should be no problem.
I actually have a friend who was in the same situation, or at least similar. He didn't have any problems doing business here in the United States, even though he technically resides in the UK.

The fact that the owners are from another country should have no impact on whether your company gets the bid. There are no legal hurdles in that regard. I own a janitorial service and we lost a bid to clean several gov't buildings to a company based out of France. The only major difference I've noticed is when submitting to do gov't work is that they always make their decisions with the general public in mind, naturally. Hope this helps and good luck
