register foreign business?

Hi,

 

I have been researching on the web for quite sometime and am hoping someone here could help me with my query. 

 

I have taken up a position in an advisory role for a foreign company based in India. As a consultant, I will be networking and soliciting customers here in the US and providing guidance for the company on global strategy.

 

Currently this is a non-compensated role but my expenses, if any, may be reimbursed. Although I will be soliciting customers, the services are exclusively provided by the companys' employees in India. My question is, does the company need to register their business here in the US in order for me to be their person of contact for customers here in the US?

  Hi,   Thanks for responding.   I just want to clarify, I do not work full time for the startup and I am not on their payroll, but I am listed on their website as part of the team. As someone in an advisory role, my responsibilities are to establish strategic ties and partnerships with potential firms and customers here in the US. Any assignments/projects resulting from such communications are deferred to the company's employees in India. Does that qualify me as an independent contractor? If it does not, does it mean the company will have to register?

Hi there, We have interests in the United Kingdom and have set up shop there providing sash window restoration and repairs, currently we have a large client base in the US but have now moved into the UK as more home have sash windows and wooden windows than you can count! We bought a UK Ltd Co very easy and take a trip once a month, taxation in UK is high but profits better than US in some ways. Are you working as an independent contractor for the company in India? If so, the company shouldn't have to establish a business in the U.S. You would be free to accept work from anyone you choose to. However, if you are an employee of the company, then they may need to establish a business presence in this country.
