Registered as a partnership in New Jersey with an effective date of 8-25-2011, we have recently moved to Michigan and would like to change our business registration entirely. Now, I keep getting directed to "DBA", however, we would like to move our entire business to Michigan. Do we discontinue our business, mail in our business registration certificate and start all over? Or is there a way to transfer our business and all tax liability to Michigan?
You should have two options. One is to dissolve the partnership in New Jersey and establish a new one in Michigan. However, if you don't want to lose the business history you have created, you may want to register in Michigan as a foreign business. You can find information on the Michigan state web site on how to do this.

Everything i have read points towards filing a DBA in your new state. This is assuming you are a partnership, However, if you are a LLP the process is different.
