Registering a business name but not open for business

Hi all
I have a five year plan for my wedding planning business and at the five year mark I want to incorporate a side wedding related business. I wrote to my state department to find out if the name I want to use is taken and it is available. I wanted to know if I register it now would I have to open that business right away or could I hold off for a few years? Names in the wedding business can go fast so while this one is available I wanted to register it before someone else comes up with it too. Is this possible?
Thanks
AJ

under it. You will probably have to amend the registration of the two
businesses to indicate a new owner (the corporation, not you). Your state
agency (or their web site) that registers business entity types can guide
you.

change over to a Corporation. For now I will start off with LLC.

register as a corporation, you will need to file Articles of Incorporation
and by-laws. Are you ready to do that at this point? If not, you may want to
consider registering as an LLC, which would protect the name, then upgrading
to a corporation at a later date.
