I have decided to set up a sole proprietorship to self-publish a book. My home-of-record is in Virginia but am currently living overseas for at least three years. I have found a printing company I will be using in Idaho, so the books will be printed and shipped from Idaho. And because of not being present in the U.S., I will probably have to hire someone part-time to help ship the books out.
So my ignorant question is this: In what state should I register this business/sole proprietorship? Virginia (where I own a home and pay taxes but am not physically present) or Idaho (from where most of the business will be conducted)?
