Any big deal with a firm comes with certain risks. Risks that can be eliminated if the development stages are followed according to a well- designed process model.
The risk that reflects immediately is the misunderstanding of the custome;s product requirement. In case of Offshore Software Development also, no risk can be avoided if there is lack of proper interaction between the client and the service provider. A proper understanding can be built by analyzing the requirements with the client.
From your knowledge of Offshore Outsourcing, what are the risks involved? Feel free to post your suggestions on the topic.

it!):
1. Privacy - what personal/business data I'm sharing with the outsourcing
partner that might affect me. I'm thinking identity theft, IP theft, misuse
of personal data, credit cards, impersonation, etc.
2. Service levels - are they reliable? are they gaming the number of hours
they charge me for?
3. Competition - will they steal my product and compete with me?
4. Reliability - will they lose interest and disappear in the middle of the
project?
5. Quality - will they produce the quality that I really need or will I find
too late that they're not?

the key to project success is good project management, and building a good
team. There are good, very smart people in 'offshore' locations like India or
Philippines, but often times, what is lacking is the experience in delivering
high quality professional projects.
