We are a registered and incorporated business in Florida, where we import stone by the container load and sell it across the country.
We've just made a sale of one full container that will be sent directly from overseas to Port of NY to a customer of ours in NY. Do we need to register and collect NY sales tax on this sale?
My company has no presence in NY, but we do work with a few companies that show and sell our product through their stores.

It sounds like you are a reseller so you don't need to collect sales tax. Your customers are retailers so they would collect the sales tax. If you ever become a retailer and sell directly to consumers, and you don't want the headaches of dealing with sales tax, we can help you file multi state sales taxes.
I do not believe you'll need to obtain sales tax; this is only required in your state of operation if the sale took place from a residence or business operating there; however I would double check to make sure, I'm basing this on another field of sales. Best of luck.
