I just became a member because I am searching for orientation and information. I want to start my own consulting and coaching online and offline business. I am unemployed, a welfare receipient, and I don't have the credit to receive loans due to complicated circumstances in my life.I need to get grants, or get in contact with angel investors. Presently I am taking workshops free of charge on how to start your own business but they don't address the type of business I want to initiate. The workshops are with the Small Business Technology Development Center. The main concern for me right now is finding the financial resources for me to start my business.
Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

There are a couple of resources I recommend as starting points:
1) The Loans & Grants Search Engine allows to enter some information about your business and get a listing of financing programs for which you might qualify. New programs are constantly being added to this tool.
2) The Loans and Grants Guide provides more information about general information about federal loans and grants programs.
You should be aware the federal government does not provide grants for starting a business. Grants for starting a business are rare and usually available from non-profits. However, both federal and state governments provide guarantees for low-interest loans that help people who are finding it difficult to get traditional financing.
