I am seeking positions with the FDIC as a subcontractor. I am searching for the contractors already working with the Resolution and Receivership division of the FDIC. To date 57 banks have failed. As a seasoned banker of 30+ years, I would like to work with these contractors, preferably with a 'woman or minority-owned' company. Thanks for any leads.

Here is a tip. The Corvus Group (located in Largo Maryland and Chicago Illinois) does most of the contractor placement for McGladrey and Corvus meets your minority owned criteria. I am sure that you have your resume with the 8 major contractors. Here is another tip. Sending your resume is not enough. Followup and followup frequently. Its all about being on the phone with the right person when they need somebody. Last tip: I am sure you have been watching the closings every Friday night and have noticed the all of the closing are going 'whole bank'. This means an assuming bank takes the deposits and the loans. Typically it would take 25-50 RAC contractors to close a bank and it would take 6-12 months to do the job. No so anymore. Asset managers, where most of the contractors fit, are no longer in demand... unless....you have contracts/leases/repudiation experience. Last year I was on a job for 10 months. The last one was 3 weeks and the one I am on now might-maybe last 6-8 weeks. Any one reading this who might have a shot at one of these jobs:1). When you get on the job, keep your head low and your mouth shut;2). Volunteer for everything with enthusiasm;3). Be a team player;4). Be positive, never ever bitch, ever, this is the fastest way to get invited to go home and a sure fire way of making sure you never get asked back to another closing;5). Treat every FDIC employee like they are your best and only client;6). If an FDIC employee compliments you (and you know it is well deserved) tell him/her that 'Kind words are appreciated', see what happens;7). If you don't have above average Microsoft Office skills, do whatever you have to do to get them.8). Remember me if you find out about any contracting job that needs a successful team player. There was a recent article posted in Small Business Matters Selling to the Government: Five Tips for Becoming a Subcontractor and Getting Your Foot in the Door that mirrors the tip that Dfitz offered on finding out about the mover and shakers and then some more.
The other link I want to point out will also help you identify the movers and shakers is USAspending.gov contracts data. Seaching through the contracts data you will be able to see a list of contractors up to FY2009 for agencies you are seeking to do business with.

What they are looking for is accountants (for proforma) and asset managers with an investigations background. Certified Fraud Examiners are in great demand. Accountants with any type of forensic training are also in demand. These folks are the only people getting long term assignments (3-6 months).

I am currently waiting for clearance, and I am very excited but I still have my doubts. I am subcontracting for a big firm, but dont know much of the terms yet. I am currently employed and I am fairly young but I am seeking for a challenge, and working as a contractor may open many doors. My biggest concern is, knowing the contract terms are short term, how many months in-between projects could pass without being employed? Knowing this could definitely help me make the right decision.
