Seeking population data for city, county, state

I am currently using the city and county web service api to gather information on cities and counties.  One piece of data that the api doesn't offer is population.  Is that data available through the business.gov api?  If not, is it available through a different web service api?

Longgears, Business.gov's Web Service API does not include population data. I would suggest visiting the Census Bureau, which may have the data you are looking for. Check out the Population Finder on Census.gov. You also may want to look at Data.gov, which is a catalog of all available Federal data sets. AriM

Ditto AriM. Exactly what he said. The Census is the best way to find out the population estimates for specific areas in my opinion, but (obviously) theres no possible way to get 100% specific population data.

is there anywhere that analyses population growth by city and state? This would be pretty helpful in tracking growth trends.
