Hello, Two moms from Califorina including myself would like to start a business selling handmade imported jewelry.  We were wondering how to go about our start-up... Any suggestions and tips? Thanks! Ana & Mariam

It seems like you are trying to start initially as a small scale business. I
think you should set up an online store for your jewelry. It will give you a
wide platform for attracting customers plus it won't require much investment.

You might check with your state department of commerce. Most have an international trade division that can help you with the required paperwork to be able to import items for resale. They should also be able to provide information on registering your business and what you will need to do to become a legal business. You might also visit with a counselor at a SCORE office or a small business development center. Their services are free and they can help you with start-up details.

 Hello, its great to see someone willing to go on their own and start an online business. I make all of my income online so don't let anyone talk you down from it! As per any tips I recommend either putting a test product on ebay or starting your own template style website. But ebay to start is the best  option. After you have setup your product I also recommend Buy Targeted Web Traffic. They're a great Company that has helped me several times get my websites off the ground and a few sales. So check them out. Im free to talk if you need any more help.

Have you tried ebay for a good starter see if there is a market for your products? if there is then you can go about getting a web site made then marketing the products and take it from their.

I think this is a great suggestion!  While starting a handmade jewelry company/line, I recommend the following: 1.) Get local business        *Go to markets and bazzars 2.) Use all possible avenues of Social Media to get the word out on your line 3.) Create an ECommerce Site       By creating an ECommerce Site, you are creating validity to your business. In addition, you are providing an avenue for people whom you meet in the markets and bazzars a location to purchase your jewelry later and a place for them to refer friends to.  However, when building your ECommerce site, ensure you learn and educate yourself about Search Engine Optimization. Find an ecommere platform that is optimized for SEO and that allows you to add the appropriate SEO information to your site. However, education is key! Don't spend money on SEO or marketing companies until you understand.  Ulitimately, SEO will help bring traffic to your site.  Also, remember create a customer experience on your ECommmerce Site!  Good Luck!
