Hello,
I am looking into being an independent respite provider for the elder
population. I would like to provide care/companion services in their homes. I
have several years of experience working with individuals with physical and
intellectual challenges of all ages, and I am in my senior year of college as
a social work/sociology major. My goal right now, is to generate income while
I am still in college, and after graduation, start a non-medical small elder
day program in a rural area of Tennessee. Any advice and suggestions are
quite welcomed! Thanks in advance!

will be greatly needed. While you are in school, you might want to look for
employment with agencies that provide non-medical in-home care. They are one
of the fastest growing industries, so you should find many agencies seeking
caring employees. You may be able to create an internship and get college
credit.
Expect to be asked to do things like light housekeeping, prepare lunch or
even run an occasional errand. As you gain experience through such
employment, you will also gain ideas for your future business - what you can
offer that is missing, how you can do things better - the options are
limitless.
