I often watch the situation when a website with lower PR has much better rankings in search engines for good key phrases. So, I think that an online entrepreneur has to be focused on SEO improvement and do the best to achieve high rankings in search engines rather than increase PR. It is my opinion that is based on my own SEO experience.

Pagerank is kind of a small factor in SEO. I worked on improving pagerank but it is quite difficult and it takes like few months to see the effort. Last 2 updates was like 6 months without PR update and I would not do something without seeing results for 6 months. If I can recall as well, it does not affect SERP. So pagerank might just be good for things like selling text ads.

I also think that Google Page Rank is too overrated and doesn't really help to attract customers. When I do SEO, I try to focus only on improving SERP rankings and increasing traffic through social networks.

Thanks so much for all your input! Just noticed I seem to have posted this twice...hmmm. Anyway, I have stopped focusing on PR and am now working on SERPs. I wrote all the content on our site. Initially I wrote it completely for the consumer. At that time I don't think I even knew the term SEO! I have since revised the text, trying to include relevant keywords in the most natural way without losing the reader. The page color is something we really like and most visitors to the site really like the design so we're going to stick with the white text on blue background for now. I'm using Pingler to ping our backlinks.  Hope that is helping the search engines catch those more quickly. Finally seeing some of them show up in Google's webmaster tools. I killed our AdWords campaign. After more than $500 in about a month and only one job booked frokm those ads it just didn't seem worth it. In addition, any internet savvy person knows the top listings on Google are ads...I skip right over those and would never click a side ad. Not sure about link exchange. Thought to add a page to our site for that purpose. We would only add sites with some relevance to our business.  Thoughts?

Some things to consider about pagerank: It only updates about once a quarter, sometimes even longer than that. IMHO, your time could be better spent trying to focus on other marketing efforts that drive traffic. A page with high PR doesn't necessarily equate to a high ranking in the SERPS. I own a number of personal sites that are ranked higher organically in Google than other pages that have a much higher pagerank. While PR is one potential factor in ranking, it clearly isn;t the single biggest factor in determining rankings, The on-page and off-page optimization will provide far more benefit in that area than PR.

I find that high page rank is overated. The key here is to get links from high page rank sites. This will move your chosen keywords up in the SERPS. There are so many junk sites out there optimizing for keywords that rank higher than sites with pagerank. This just goes to show that getting high pagerank is not the most important factor in building your online presence.

Pagerank is just a small factor from overall of something like 200! In the past Pagerank was the most dominant factor but today, you can see occasionally websites with lower Pagerank than other, ranking higher!
