Hello bmbasso, Small business certification is a self certification process.  In order to do business with the government, you need to create a profile in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database at www.ccr.gov.  Federal contracting officers use this database to seek out qualified small businesses to perform tasks for them or to purchase goods and services from them.  I hope that this helps.

Welcome to the Community! I would start with Business.gov's Guide to Government Contracting. There are many resources located on that page and a link to the Central Contractor Registration website as well. Is there anyone else on the forum that has gone through this process that may be able to shed some light?
I know you can go to the SBA website. I have read somewhere that SBA does not certify businesses. Certification agencies have their own individual procedures and processes, but all conform to certain government and private sector standards. Certification agencies will only certify businesses that meet certification criteria according the SBA’s standards and definitions.

State registration is a requirement iirc but shouldn't be hard to do -- best of luck.

I think so long as you are registered with your state as an LLC or any other business, you can technically start workign on government contracts.
