Small business getting failure due to the lack of research. Small business
need very deep research. Small business owner need to aware from the current
market requirement. Only by placing a business doesn't work for you rather to
know where it's need.

"failure" rates could be hard to quantify depending on your definition. For
example, would you include businesses that are still registered and
technically active, but haven't actively traded for months? Many businesses
don't get entirely shut down, thief owner just cease operating them
indefinitely.

I agree with your point that SBA should have relevant statistics for small
businesses. That being said, US census should have that information.

Those statistics are not entirely accurate anyway. Regardless of the stats
working exhaustively on a newly found business will prove longevity,
otherwise just be another statistic.

This would be interesting to see and be able to compare what areas need the most help and to be able to compare what industries are suffering the most.

You can try the U.S Census - they have tons of data on what you seek. Check with your local chamber of commerce. Check with your Secretary of State's office. As stated, not all businesses that close do so due to failure - there are many reasons that businesses close. You might be better off finding out if your business is needed and wanted in the community.  That means getting out and talking with potential customers - those who will be spending money at your establishment.

It would be great to have that information. However, I think it would be pretty bias.  A lot of people start businesses just because they think it will be easy, or even as a hobby.  When the reality hits that it is more than they can handle, or they don't receive the right response, they quickly shut it down in fear.  People like this can easily skew the results, therefore, there are a few categories people can be placed under: Committed Hobby Challenge If you are truly interested, I would recommend finding a niche in your area.  There are a lot of companies that sell prime data to show the demand versus supply in different geographical areas (like demographicsnow.com, but costs about $1200-$3500)  Some cities may lack a repair shop, but that could be that they live in a community that is tightnit and helps each other, or their income is high to where they take it to the auto dealer. Long story short, statistics may show one thing, but it could be far from the truth from what people may actually be feeling. My best advice, if you are serious, is to hire a survey company that goes door-to-door and asks questions about their age, income, and services they use most often.  The results are limited, but this is the best wa to gather the information before starting a business about the most up-to-date demographic info.

I think that so many small businesses failed first because they don't have a proper business plan and secondly they believe they will start to earn in no time. Most of small businesses are beginning to earn only after the first year and many only after the second one.
