I am looking for information on how I can get a gov. grant to purchase an existing small business. My wife works at a small hair salon and her boss would like to sell it to us. I am currently unemployed(layoff) so we do not have any money to put toward the purchase. I am going to talk with my bank to see what they offer. The positive side of the purchase is that my wife's boss would like to work for us until she retires(about seven years) so we will have her there to help us with the business for at least that time. only concerns are that with the current economy, 1. getting a loan, 2, keeping the business in business. that is the main reason for the grant, hoping to get enough money that we will not have to take out such a big loan. any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on what seems like it might be a good and
new opportunity to purchase an existing small business. Lance, you will most likely have to
pursue some alternative ways of getting the money instead of relying on
grants. Most grants are not given to
individuals, rather to nonprofit charitable organizations that are
officially recognized by the government with 501c3 status.
Most businesses will only qualify for small business loans in most cases.
