The high level point of what is the relationship between large businesses and small business will always be important.   There were a lot of questions asked in the initial post.   Large corporations will always do business with small businesses if it is in their interest.   They will always be interested in doing business with large businesses also if it is in their interest.  One big difference between large and small businesses definately is that large businesses are much more bureaucratic and often move slowely, though they will not ever admit that.   Certainly large businesses have occasions when they change things very fast, but that is once they decide to do so, and the decision may have come very slowly.  Large business know that small businesses will work on the fly and change things more quickly, so this is one reason they may consider this an advantage in a small business.    Small business will often change many more things quickly.    There are many examples of large companies working with small ones, and this will always continue.    Usually the small companies identify small companies that have a technology or marketing niche that the larger one wants to get into. 

I've worked with businesses big and small, and found tht generally big businesses prefer to do business with big businesses. It's not the big business that is at issue really, but the people that work for the big business. They are usually university educated, and prefer to deal with people like themselves. Further, big business employees are focused on their own personal performance, and how things look on their resume. Small business people, typically the owner, are focused on getting the best deal. I think those are two completely different buying styles... the performance buyer and the value buyer.  My opinion is that small businesses can sell to big businesses but there is more selling required - to upsell the prospect on the performance of the product and offer a packaged solution with support, etc. Although it's probably different for different industries. Just my opinion.
