I have read some posts in here from people starting up their new businesses asking for advice in how to market and spread the word around about their product, program or whatever they are selling.
In most threads, people are quickly to advice them into PPC advertising or Pay Per Click advertising to be correct, so in-experienced internet marketers can understand this to.
Doing PPC advertising is the quickest way to get broke or file for bankcruptcy if you do not know what you are doing. The mother of all PPC advertising, Google AdWords is so complex to use in a proper way that gives you a enough return on investments(ROI). You should rather focus your internet marketing efforts on the free methods out there before you turn to PPC advertising. Buy some training on how to do PPC advertising with Google AdWords or use the free training that Google AdWords are offering before you spend your money at PPC advertising.

You really think classified ads are the way to go considering how labor-intensive it is and not leveraged at all?
I do agree about PPC though.

Organic Search Traffic is KING!
Now let me show you why.
Side note: I am not completely discounting paid traffic; I think it still has an important place for things like keyword research, etc.
There are 2 main reasons I believe that organic search engine ranking traffic is the winner here:
-Organic Traffic is Growing... Paid is Declining
-Organic Traffic is FREE
SEO sounds intimidating, but it is MUCH easier to learn thatn PPC, it's free, and it's leveraged - once you get ranked for your keyword, maintaing your position is a breeze.

I totally agree with you that PPC on Google adwords would bankrupt a beginner if they didn't know what they were doing. And Yes Extensive training is required to become an expert in this field and to obtain good results.
This is a very extensive list you have provided for anyone wanting to start classified advertising and would be the way to go if you are on a low budget.
I would just add to this to only choose a few to advertise with but advertise in a big way. i.e. Submit a lot of adds but only to the top directories I would suggest between 15 and 30 adds to each site you decide would be the top add sites.

And if they don't know how to do SEO, they need to get the information and learn it. That takes more time than using the list to create Classified Ads. Before de PPC you need to do SEO, and you have to do the PPC for the Keywords that you can`t optimize in SEO for x reason. So SEO and SEM are the perfect combination for business if you have the knolowedge or the right person.

I tried to follow this thread but it is very hard to do: so many mesages are removed and not clear where they were moved. This thread is important though. There's too much fascination with PPC. It is declining, I agree. Yet, SEO is not very clear how to do, because there are no rules. Besides, whatever rules we know, they keep changing all the time.

Organic traffic would have to be the best traffic in the long term, it is certainly what I use.
But of course, it all takes training to learn how to do this effectively to get the great results that can be achieved through this method.
Terje was just giving a fast option for the beginner who didn't have the knowledge required for PPC advertising. Classified advertising worked for me when I was starting out and can be a good free option in some cases.
No matter what method you use to market your business online, a wide knowledge base is required for most options. You can't go wrong if you learn all you can about marketing to broarden your knowledge base in.
I believe, in keeping your options open and to try different methods to market your business and see which one works best for you and not just stick to the one type of marketing.

PPC is a viable approach in different business niches. in some cases getting organic search engine rankings is very difficult if not impossible using normal means.
In cases like this paid search is your only real option for getting search traffic.
With that said, you don't have to spend a fortune on PPC advertising, you can set a small budget and target seaches that are not that competitive, but still fit within your overall niche. This will allow yu to get better mileage from your budget without sacrificing quality.
Google's adwords product allows you to set a per click budget and select from a range of terms neae to your primary search term. Some of these terms are not very saturated so you can get very cheap per click ratea and still show up in the first few ads.
