Hello, I am looking for start-up grants to help assist my non-profit organization. I am currently designing a program for children and youths in foster care group homes, schools or the foster care facility. I would like to know are there any grants that will assist me with journals, paper, pens, food(snacks),and books for my program? This will be a great asset to my organization and help me bring creative writing to children, and give them an opportunity to express themselves through writing. Thank you.

Look into the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations. They fund ideas like yours.
Not sure what the qualificaations are but I am sure you will need your IRS
501(c)(3) designation first.

The type of grant you are seeking is most often available from local and
regional private foundations, not the government. Your local library may have
information on grant resources in your community. The other option, as
KMurray mentioned, is to seek a microloan.

Hi, Federal grants are typically aimed at specific industries and targeted causes identified by the government, such as scientific and medical research, conservation efforts, and so on. You might consider checking out the SBA-backed Microloan Program, which provides small, short-term loans to small business concerns and certain types of not-for-profit child-care centers.
