My good friend has a very successful business in Italy that he wishes to bring to America, which I will be helping him with. He is a famous athlete and has connections here, but would like to start the company in his name. How do we start the process of bringing his business here? More specifically, it will be based out of either Los Angeles or San Diego, California. What steps do we need to take? Any help would be really great!
Great advice here but would like to add - make sure you speak with an attorney who understands the laws of both countries - especially the tax implications - this new business, if not set up right may get taxed heavily by both countries - as well as the state of CA.
You have two following choices:
Form a foreign entity in USA of his existing company lactated in oversees to conduct business in USA or
You can form a new entity in USA.
If you choose choice one then you need to obtain a certificate of good standing of your existing entity and if you choose choice two then it is not required.
