Hi Everyone!. My wife and I would like to open a wedding gows and dress. We will sell online and if they want to do some fitting we can have them come to our house. We are getting our products from the Philippines since we know a supplier.My question is other than a Business License and Sellers permit. What else do I need in order to start importing. The supplier from the other Philippines will get their own papers in order to export. Can you please direct me or provide me with some information on what I need in order to start importing Thanks in advance

I don't think your idea will work. You need to re-think it. Why are you doing the business online? How can someone try the wedding gown on if they are 500 miles away? You said they need to come in to try it on. People will not drive very far to go to an unknown business to try on a dress for the biggest day of their life at someone's house. And if you are limiting your online business to your local area why bother going online, just advetrise locally.  How will you pay for the inventory? What about returns? You need to write up a business plan and work out all the details.

I would suggest that you find a SCORE or SBDC office in your area.  They are free to use and will know all the local requirements for your business.  Plus, they can help you navigate the import side of your business. Its hard to answer your question as all local areas have different rules.

You need to register your business name and entity type with your state or county agency that handles such matters. You should also talk to an independent insurance agent about the types of insurance you will need, including product liability insurance.
