Before you can apply for a grant, you must first find grants for which your organization might qualify. This takes time. You might check with your state department of parks and recreation to see if they offer grants. In many cases, if they have grants, they will be for small amounts. Depending on where you live, some larger libraries have funding information, either on their web site or at the library. My library lists local and regional foundations that offer grants. Once you find a list, you need to go through it to find those that fund recreational activities like your camp. Once you find possible grant opportunities, you may need to contact the organization that offers the grant to find out how and when to apply. Every grant application will be different, so be prepared to spend quite a bit of time preparing each application. You will need to follow the directions exactly. You can also look for federal grant opportunities at grants.gov and on the web site Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. Look for national foundation grants on the web site of the Foundation Center.
