HI! I am a young entrepreneur and I am wanting to start my own publishing company so I can publish my own books and comics. At first I will be working from home. I hope that's Ok? MY question is where does someone start in establishing the company? How do I get an ID number? Do I need a license in this type of business in Kentucky? I pretty much need to know everything there is to know.
It's an excelleint business idea. With more and more people reading comics, magazines on internet this business has some good potential. The only thing one needs to do here is be innovative!

If I may, what types of comics are you designing to create? I am a comic lover so I had to ask. Anywho, a home business is totally OK. That's how pretty much most people kind of get started, in my personal opinion.
There are many resources online that you can use to help you get started, but I think there are many on this site as well (out of the discussion forums).
I'm not absolutely sure about in Kentucky so I'll wait for others to chime in first.

If your just starting it can be costly to publish hard cover books, if money is an issue then I would suggest that you start with online digital e-books that you can publish at Amazon Kindle.

In regards to starting a business in Kentucky, follow these 10 Steps for Starting a Business. To check if you need a license, you can check out the Business.gov Permit and License Search.
One thing to remember with starting a publishing company is there are a lot of upfront costs. You do not make money until you start selling your books. Try to make sure you start getting some orders before you just write books and comics.

Publishing business is interesting. What kind of topics do you write? You should get the legal infos from your State. Where are you from?
