Actually, any business start is a great risk and you should be ready for this. There is no guarantee that you will be able to get the requested funds, besides, you can't be absolutely sure in your business immediate success as the current economy is rather unstable and it's hard to foresee whether it will improve or not. I'm not trying to confuse you, just be ready for difficulties and don't give up. Good luck.

Forget about grants - they just don't work that way. For the $150,000 - several options. If you already operate a franchise - you might be able to leverage that business for the funds you need - there are business cash advances or use those business assets as collateral. Or, banks are primarily interested in credit and cash flow. If you credit is strong and you have decent cash flow - either from your business, a job or other sources - then apply directly. There are many banks and non-bank private lenders that will fund you if you have strong credit and cash flow. You might even look into SBA loans or use any retirement assets for working capital. Lastly, you might think of working your business a different way. For example, instead of trying to get a single loan to cover all your capital needs for the next three years or so - start smaller. Determine what you need now for the next two months - then try to find ways to get those funds. Then, as you move forward - continue to seek the funds you need to stay afloat - this means that you will only require smaller amounts (which are easier to get) and as your business grows - then you have a better chance of getting more and bigger loans as you need them because at this point you can show some track record. Also, along these lines, if you need a truck - look to an equipment lender that will work with start ups - then find a unsecured lender for the rest (making both easier to get as they are smaller amounts by themselves).
