Starting a small business in the USA

Hi all - I am a small designer/manufacturer based in the UK.
I realize that this is a common issue, but I would appreciate any advice on how to set up a trading entity in the USA to sell my products retail, at a variety of events around the country, throughout the year.
I don't need premises to trade from and can import my products initially before setting up any facilities in the US to make them.
My main question is this:
Do I need a US citizen on the board of a US Company to trade? Or can I set one up with foreign owners/Directors and employ local US citizens to carry on the business of the Company?
What kind of Company would be best suited for this kind of activity in the US - I need a trading entity that will efficiently allow me to sell directly to US citizens in a legal and proper manner - and how do I go about setting one up without huge costs involved... Any suggestions or directions towards a reputable business advisor would be great too.
Thanks for any help in advance...
