Hi Munk, I'm not sure about Colorado but I know in many counties in California there are no extra permits needed if there are no hazardous and/or controlled substances. Heck, I know a $20M annual revenue skincare company that runs their lab out of a dumpy garage.   Of course every area could be different and it will depend on the type of lab exactly, but the fact that you won't be working with anything hazardous should definitely make it easier.

You didn't specify what kind of lab you would like to set up.    BTW I would like to ask the same questions, but I want to set up a genetics laboratory overseas (outside the US) but would like to target US customers.

I would start with the zoning office for the area the lab will be built. Getting on the good side of your zoning officer will be key. Good luck!
