Suggestions on getting my business out there and marketing

I have formed a company that provides Life Skills training workshops teaching such subjects as: resume building, setting goals and objectives interviewing techniques. I have taught these workshops for non profit organizations successfully and now I need to move to the next level. I find this stage frustrating because I really don't know where to go other than non profits and especially this year their budgets (along with everyone else) is tight, but I refuse and will never give up. Our communities and people need this service.  

 

Any suggestions will be helpful and appreciated thanks.

You need to make a website. Promotion your website get a high ranking in google search term 'Your business keyword'. I think it's necessory on modern era to make businees searchable. I am SEO professional promote business in USA & UK. Message Edited by StuartR on 05-19-2009 01:02 PM

Website is one of the most important things that you can have. If you have business cards, a letter head, or a business proposal (all things I recommend) having a link to your website is the quintessential element to survive in todays modern business world. You can make or download a website template, and edit it to fit your needs, then customize it as you go, as you learn more. If you are making a website yourself, do not get overly complicated when you are first starting out, or you will get discouraged and lose your interest. If you are in a position to pay someone, and have disposible income, I suggest doing that. Once your website is made do a simple press release, advertising your website, mandate, and services.

I would take the advice of others here and get a website where you can rank for some geographic keywords such as 'YOUR CITY skills training' etc. This can be a great way to get some leads and a huge thing will just be networking like crazy when you are out as this is needed by a lot of people right now. You could also look into buying a booth for very cheap at job fairs and charge a small fee for a resume review and then try to upsell them on other services. I know the government is also going to be forking out a lot of money on retraining so that may be something worth researching.

Not only get a website, but make that website pay. Create online seminars that people can sign up for fairly cheaply. Create CDs that people can buy, with a full seminar included, and workbooks, etc. Do individual coaching on the web at $X per hour. Review resumes for $X. People will spend money when they believe it will help them get money. Just keep the cost reasonable. And use those non-profits as a strong recommendation on how great your service is.
