trade marking my band name

I have performed in a band for a living since 1991.  I've registered the band name as a DBA with the county that i reside in.  Should i also get the band name trademarked?  how do i go about doing that if so?

If your band's name is one that could be used by others, then you will want to trademark it in your state. That adds a layer of protection that you don't have with a DBA. However, the burden is on you to find businesses using a similar name and to notify them of trademark infringement.

Thats a tricky one I'm not sure that you can trademark a band name but a brand of band might be a bit different... I know I had an enquiry from a client of mine recently and she wanted to trademark some characters in a feature film and there is no way she can do that. Hopefully the laws are different in the USA. Hi Bands, If you are planning to launch your band nationally, you may want to trademark your band name with the US Patent and Trademark Office. If you are just doing business locally, then a DBA is sufficient, though you can consider applying for a state trademark.
