As a virtual receptionist/assistant business owner I find it hard to find the right group that uses our services. Do most people prefer having an in-office receptionst although the cost to outsource to a company like myself would be way less expensive? Or it is because people don't know the benefits of having a virtual receptionist? Please share your thoughts!!
For most businesses that have walk-in traffic, IE- our real estate business; we would require an in-house receptionist.
However, I have used virtual receptionist in my seminar business and internet based business. So you could target such companies. If you have not already, I would list the services that a receptionist can do (above the basics of answering phones, etc) and gather case studies from at least 3 different industries to show how your service can help others.

I would share with you that you may not be targeting the right businesses, such as the sole proprietors and micro-business who are so busy driving around and doing their work that they rely solely upon their cell phones. I suggest starting with the phone book in your area and isolate the types of businesses that are probably sole proprietors or micro's (locksmiths, contractors-painters, concrete, etc. Perhaps join your local Chamber of Commerce. There is a great benefit to using a virtual assistant especially when your business revolves around taking in calls. For example, a client of mine has a website where a prominent phone number receives multiple calls a day for a service offering. He had hired a group of stay at home moms to receive the calls. Not only is it cost effective, but he also is able to balance multiple calls at he same time.

I've used services online were I can temporarily hire on a contractor for various reasons. The benefits is you can browse through a series of thousands of potential candidates that are skilled in the area that you would need, You can also set deadlines and pay by the hour, and or contract. The big downfalls of said online companies is that there isn't any real interview process for their applicants. That being said you are taking a serious risk on a low grade job.
What would be really beneficial is having a good interview process and letting your customers know that they will be getting guaranteed work from your employees. A lot of companies that do SEO are in need of such services quite often. Just a suggestion.
