Anyone starting a business, home-based or not, should understand hosting. A website is supremely important when it comes to starting your business. A good website with a good host can truly legitimize a business. I just wanted everyone to know this is important and should be aware of the pitfalls involved in choosing hosting.
There is a history to the web and hosting. It would be very helpful to have a cursory understanding of all of that when you start a business.--- is a non-commercial, encyclopedic guide to hosting. Hope this can help somebody avoid the mistakes that I made.

You be sure to register the domain under your name. Also if it's an eCommerce website you will need to implement an opencart. It's worked great so you could use them if they work good for you!

I agree websites are important but just as equally important is usability. If
potential customers are having to search through pages upon pages for
information they need, chances are they will simply move on to your
competitor.

Those who want to host their website,before web hosting they should know some
facts about hosting like domain registration,hosting category,hosting
platforms etc.
This does look a bit spammy but, I will say that in today's economy and
technology enviroment, having a website is important. No one is using phone
books anymore. Everyone just searches the web from home or on their smart
phones. At the very least, a small business website will serve as your
digital phone book ad and/or business card

There are thousands of online scam websites being hosted every day. Just
because a site is online, it doesn't make it legitimate. I'm not sure what

The worst thing You can do when choosing hosting is to get actracted by the
low hosting price. The price is usually the sign that it is too god to be
true.
In most cases You get shared hosting and god knows what ip neighborhood.
For those who dont know what ip neighborhood is:
in shared hosting you share ip address with other sites and those sites can
be good or bad (they can have god knows what content) and You dont want your
ip address to be asociated with some spamy or even worst adult material...
So my advice is choose your hosting provider wisely,check your ip neighboors
of on a shared hosting (there are tools for this ,just google ip neighbors)
I have learnt one thing hard way that the domain name registrant must be done
by the owner of the website not the hosting company, otherwise you will
always be at the mercy of hosting company.
