What kind of loans or grants are available for an over the road truck driver to purchase his own truck and be self employed?

Forget about grants - you will only waste your time, energy and money as they just don't work that way. There are many loan (many from non-bank lenders who make getting approvals much easier). But, in order to point you in the right direction would need to know more about how much you are seeking.

Amy9265, Loans would be better for you in this case. Grants are usually reserved for specific government programs and initiatives and not just starting a business. SBA has some loan programs that you will want to look into. You will still need to get a commercial lender to approve you. If you haev specific questions about the different loans, look to see if there is a Small Business Development Center or an SBA district office in your area. JimD
