My husband is in the Military and we are technically residents of the state where he signed up even though we live in another state now. I am starting an online business and I need to know what state I need to get a business licence from. Does anybody know?
You will need to get a permit from the city you conduct business in, assuming it is California. The state will require you to pay income taxes, and if incorporated, registration fees.

I believe you have to register your business where the business is located. You should contact your local government and double check. You should also take a look at Business.gov's Online Business Guide for starting an online business.

Business licenses are issued locally by the city or county clerk where you live and where the business is located. You will need to register your business name and entity type (LLC, partnership, etc.) in the state where the business will be located.
