Why do you want to advertise for your blog? If the content of your blog is tempting, you need not to do advertise.

You need to make sure that you have enough visitors to convince potential advertisers that it's worth their while to advertise with you. And that takes usually around 3-6 months of hard work.   It's probably best to start offering just a few ads spaces as nothing looks worse than freeing up a huge chunk of space for adverts and no one takes it up. It doesn't give advertisers any faith as no one wants to go first and take the risk that it will work.   You're probably better to put a free ad on first for someone you know just to ge the ball rolling.

It also depends on what type of advertising you wish to seek. If you are more interested in putting PPC (pay per click) ads on your site, then you can really start them at any time, with the understanding that if your website does not have a lot of traffic yet, then you will not be receiving a lot of hits and revenue from those ads. When you sell ad space on your website, those who buy the space are going to want to know the total number of visitors, the total number of unique visitors, the click through rate, bounce rate etc. Make sure to have all this information ready. This does not apply to placing PPC ads on your site- only ads in which companies buy a block of space. You can also sign up for companies that sell ad space and they usually have system that will tell you how much you can reasonably market your space for. Looking at your blog, you might also want to consider writing your content around keywords so that your website will gain more traffic. Be a good ad hoster and be willing to come in a little low price way when you first get going. In order to gain more traffic so that more companies will want to advertise with you, you can also use social media to boost up your traffic to your blog. It is free, cheap and very easy. When you have built some authority in the domain you are in. If you are seeking direct advertisements, then the advertiser will expect you to be a trusted blogger in the field. Of course you need to have to a large following in your blog and possibly better Alexa ranking

Hi Kok,   Advertising in your blog can take many directions.   But as other forum members have said, your return will be based on the possible number of viewers, as well as if the ad is attractive to them.   Many people start by placing Google ads (or Yahoo etc) down the side of their column, as long as you limit the number of ads and place them aesthetically; these can start returning you money straight away.   If you want to place Banner advertising on your site, clients will often want to know your monthly visitor number and maybe some demographic info. You will need to choose the size and placement of the ad, if you charge them a flat fee per month or they negotiate a click through fee (cents per click). Once you get enough traffic you may decide to rotate your banners. That way you can have four clients in the same physical space - and not bore the viewer. But of course the client will want to negotiate down the price if they are not full time advertised. Sometimes it is worthwhile when starting out to get a few free clients banners and a few paid ones, to provide diversity and a kick start.   The other main option I would suggest is to join an affiliate marketing program. In this case you display their ads, just like a banner, but they pay you more often on click throughs that are converted to sales, such as $5 per book they sell from customers that were sent from your site. Some sites such as auto insurance can pay up to $100 for a converted sale, but again it is often best to keep your advertising related to your site so as not to disenfranchise your visitors. Be aware that there is nothing worse than a site with glary colors and multitudes of unrelated ads on it looking like a shabby thrift shop.   It will be interesting to see what you go with and how you arrange the mix.   Best in business!

I suggest you start with text ads like Google AdSense and become a LinkShare affiliate. You'll know when it's the right time to work with adviertisers when they start contacting you. You should start seeking advertisers after you have quite a bit of quality content, at least some traffic, good rankings for some of your keywords, and you'll probably need some PR also. You can start looking for advertisers immediately but you most likely won't get any until your blog has some of these things. As your traffic, rankings, PR, and other stats increase you will find it much easier to get more advertisers and you'll be able to start charging more.

First of all, you need to have good Page Rank and traffic. There are many blogs available on the web. Whats unique about yours? You need to answer this question. Getting sponsors is not an easy task you need to market your blog. I hope it will help you.
