I work with a non-profit animal rescue in south central Pennsylvania. I am trying to find information on available grants for wind energy. The location seems perfect for some windmills with 10+ acres of field on top of a hill and always a mean wind pushing through. Current electric bills are near $2000 a month so it would definately benefit our struggling non-profit. I cannot seem to find much, anyone here have any ideas for me?

Take a look at the Business.gov's Loans and Grants Search tool. It can be tricky to find grants that you qualify for.
The federal government does not provide grants for starting and expanding a business. However, some state and local programs provide grants for expanding child care centers; creating energy efficient technology; and developing marketing campaigns for tourism. You can also check with your state to see if there are any special grants or initiatives happening.
You may also want to contact a wind energy company and see if you can lease the land to them or work some type of agreement. They way you can make some more money and not have to put out the money to build and maintain the windmills.

Leasing the land to a wind energy company is a great opportunity to explore. You might also contact your state office of energy resouces. They should have information to help you with either securing funding or putting you in contact with a company that may be interested in leasing some of the property.

Thanks for the replies. Leasing the land to an energy company is a great idea that would solve most of the problems with putting this together. I will continue my research in this direction and prepare to sell the board on this scenario.

Grants.gov website provides extensive search tools for finding requests for proposals (RFPs) from all 26 federal agencies that provide funding. On the site, you can sign up for grant alerts in whatever areas you have an interest, including in wind energy. Applications for grants can be obtained through the on-line Federal Register. In addition, many states offer their own wind energy grant programs. Stateby-state listings can be found on the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE). Many foundations like the Energy Trust also offer grants in the field of wind energy and may even help pay for grant writers to prepare federal grant applications. Online foundation search tools are also available that can search thousands of foundations for wind energy grants
Investing in wind power technology for a few basic reasons: to reduce energy costs; to study the effectiveness of wind energy technology as a renewable, nonpolluting energy resource; to spur development of new affordable wind power technologies for both large and small scale applications; and to help the wind energy industry reach a tipping point at which wind power becomes a profitable form of energy.
