Hi Nicole, Thanks for the response. I followed the link and the question in that thread pertains to people getting government contracts that are actually contractors themselves. My question is along the same lines, but replace the contract employee with a federal employee. To my knowledge there's nothing preventing such a thing providing there isn't conflict of interest which would be the case in my scenario, but I would like to make sure.

Under Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), the governing body for federal contracts, it is a conflict of interest for government employees or organizations owned and controlled by them to receive a federal contract. Read more about Subpart 3.6, which states the rule and the exceptions.

Thanks! Makes sense to the degree that the federal employee is essentially getting paid twice by the government. I can understand seeing that sometimes it can be hard to get paid once... MD

Sounds like a conflict of interest tome.

I understand that's the usual first reaction. However, as a business ownerthere would not be benefit that would result fromany opportunity for influencethe outcome of a decision to award a contract. If the work performed in regular employment for the government and as a service to the government through a small business were the same, I would say it's possible a conflict could exist. On the other hand, even if the work performed and service provided were in the same category, if the contract was awarded by a department or agency the employee has no ties to, I can't see the conflict. Some look at it as holding multiple jobs with the government, but it's really not the same thing.
