Yahoo merging with Bing from August/September Onwards

Hello,

 

I just received an email from Yahoo which informed me that From August/September onwards Yahoo will display Bing results in their search results.

 

Therefore, it makes sense to focus on Bing instead of Yahoo search since both will be merged together then Yahoo will start showing search results of Bing.

 

I am not sure how it will affect SEO's, Advertisers who focus heavily on Yahoo and not on Bing and Google.

 

On the whole it will be a good move since you will have to focus on just two search engines including Google and Bing.

 

Pls let me know if you heard about this merger :)

This will indeed be interesting to watch. Having both bing and yahoo take on google. Google is only growing stronger everyday, maybe this merger might give microsoft a slight edge towards getting closer to google's power dominance.   It would be wise not to ignore this news as bing and yahoo would hold close to 25% market share. Also it appears that it is easier to rank in yahoo than google, so this may open up good opportunities for many businesses.

Would it really make a difference if they merge or not? Coz when I do check my backlinks. Bing and Yahoo more or less have the same result, only around 5% difference and that is a generous amount sort to speak. I really dont think it would impact SEO technique that much but I could be wrong ... Maybe I am doing my backlink in pages/site that are indexed by both Yahoo and Bing :) Just my 2 cent worth

Apart from having to only target 2 search engines, the biggest difference would be in regards to PPC, or paid per click advertising. As mentioned before 25% of the market share is substantial and for bing to focus on paid advertising would be a welcome change from the google monopoly. It can also mean cheaper CPC rates with google, since they would respond to the competition.

I take it all the yahoo branfing and serivces will remain the same, Y mail, messenger and so on?

Wow, is this really happening!? Are thay actuallt merging results or just featuring each others results!? I can't see Google getting too worried - it sounds more like a recipe for disaster to me than the answer to seriously challenging Google. Will be interesting to watch though! Anyone got a link to a press release or news article from either of them regarding this?
